One Room Challenge Week 5: From Power Walk to Full Sprint

If the first few weeks of the One Room Challenge felt like a steady power walk… the last two weeks have felt more like an unexpected sprint with questionable footwear.

Life decided to pile on all at once.

Between Brandon working overtime, surprise home repairs, and taking my German Shepherd, Dolly, to her trainer (which absolutely broke my heart for the week), this season has required more flexibility than I would have preferred.

But even with the chaos, progress happened.

And honestly? Sometimes that is the real win.

What We Accomplished This Week

This week was less about slow, pretty progress photos and more about getting things done.

We officially finished the wallpaper; and seeing it up has made such a difference. It adds depth, personality, and that collected layer the room was missing.

We also shopped for a new sectional… and let’s just say there is more to that story coming soon.

The lighting is officially hung, which instantly changed the feel of the room. There is something magical about replacing temporary bulbs and “someday” plans with lighting that actually belongs in the space.

One of my favorite finds this week was a gorgeous floor lamp from the IKEA As-Is section. A little luck, a little timing, and exactly the kind of treasure I love.

And finally, we started gathering the materials, furniture, and decor pieces we’ll need to carry us through the next two weeks and into the final reveal.

Real Life and Renovation

I think one of the biggest lessons in projects like this is that progress rarely arrives in a perfectly styled package.

Sometimes it comes while juggling schedules.
Sometimes it comes while worrying about your dog.
Sometimes it comes while trying to figure out why another thing in the house suddenly needs repaired.

And sometimes it comes quickly… like a full sprint when you thought you signed up for a casual walk.

Looking Ahead

The next two weeks are all about bringing everything together.

Furniture placement.
Styling.
Shelves.
Books.
Layers.
Those finishing touches that make a room feel lived in instead of just completed.

We are tired. We are slightly chaotic. But we are moving forward.

And I cannot wait to show you the final reveal.
